Angelina's Bakery

My rating: 8.1/10

Angelina’s Bakery is a cheap but boujee modern bakery in Manhattan, NY. It is decorated with colorful designs to make you feel like a kid again. The childlike environment enticed me to order a Nutella croissant. I also chose a savory item, the ‘egg and spinach'.

A Nutella croissant is seemingly straightforward. Let me tell you, nothing is ever straightforward in New York City. The croissant was large, fluffy and filling. There was quite a bit of powdered sugar on top. Once I stopped inhaling and choking on powdered sugar, I understood the appeal.

The croissant was airy and fluffy. The thick nature of Nutella really coats the mouth with a chocolate hazelnut film. A good way to combat this is with something a little heavier, like bread. The croissant was deliciously light, but because it was paired with Nutella, I was hoping for a heavier and thicker croissant.

A light croissant is perfect for the other flavors on the menu, but Nutella is too heavy for the croissant. Regardless, it was delicious and I would absolutely order it again.

The ‘egg and spinach’ was exactly as it sounded. Egg and spinach on top of essentially a pie crust. It came in the style of a deep-dish pizza. The pie crust was too flakey for me. Pie crust is a lot cheaper than thicker bread so I understand the appeal; however, it would have drastically improved the dish.

The ‘egg and spinach’ was delicious and the perfect light counterpart to the Nutella croissant. The flakey crust made the ‘egg and spinach’ hard to eat. I felt like a slob. With both the Nutella croissant and the ‘egg and spinach’ prepare to feel sticky. I should have embraced my inner child and felt comfortable with Nutella on my mouth and flakey pie crust in my teeth. The bakery is perfect for a child-like mindset with adult proportions and preparations.

The price is nothing to look past. Both pastries came out to a little above $15 dollars. You couldn’t ask for a better price for a delicious, light, NYC breakfast.

I recommend getting a pastry if you pass by. Check out their website here ⬇️
