Best Bagel and Coffee
My rating: 7.8/10
Buddy the Elf once said, “Congratulations, you did it! World’s best cup of coffee!” Unlike in “Elf,” the name “Best Bagel and Coffee” is semi-suiting, at least for bagels. Best Bagel & Coffee can be found in Manhattan, New York City near Penn Station.
When I arrived there was a line out the door. 5 minutes later, I had already paid with my bagel in hand. The efficiency was incredible. Many small NYC shops are fast at their craft, but to me, this was next-level efficiency.
I ordered an everything bagel with egg and bacon. A classic breakfast bagel. Although I am a foodie, I am also a cheapskate. I ordered one of the cheapest things on the menu and because of that, the bagel did a lot of the flavor work. There was not much flavor in anything but the bagel. Both the egg and bacon were mediocre, but as a cheap bagel shop, there’s not much you can do about that. If I had chosen a bagel with other ingredients I’m sure my opinion would have changed.
The bagel was heavy enough to be filling but the inside was light enough to let the garlic exterior shine. It was delicious and meant to be enjoyed with stronger flavors. An everything bagel is definitely the way to go. If you decide to get a breakfast sandwich I suggest you spend the extra money to get more ingredients. There is only so much flavor a bagel can provide on its own.
I have been debating my rating for this shop. I landed on 7.8 because although the bagel was one of the best I have ever had, the egg and bacon were mediocre. There’s not much you can do about that, but I was hoping for a little more in the ingredient regard. For that reason, I landed on a 7.8, a very good score for a hole-in-the-wall bagel shop in NYC.
If you are in the mood for a NYC bagel, this is a quick and delicious option.
