Kuxe Thompson
My rating: 8.8/10
I recently had the privilege of going to NYC. As a foodie, I took advantage of this. Did I spend way too much money on food? Yes. Do I regret it? No.
One of the best restaurants from the trip was Kuxe Thompson, a Mexican restaurant near Washington Square Park.
The quality and authenticity of the dishes really shine. Kuxe Thompson says it designed its menu through authentic Mexican dishes that were passed through the generations. These chefs have run with authenticity and created a star restaurant.
My meal consisted of nachos as a starter and tacos de pescado for my main course. This was a relatively small meal for me, but as you know, on a budget I can only do so much. That being said, the meal was delicious and filling.
The nachos were the star of the show. Everyone at the table was able to dive into the nachos without fear. There was not too much spice and the perfect amount of toppings. Many times nachos can be disappointing because after a few bites there are no more toppings for your chips. This was by no means the case.
The black beans were spread evenly over the chips. Every bite had Mexican cheese, pickled jalapenos, black beans, pico de gallo and crema. A few special bites even had guacamole. A few radishes were spread across the nachos as well.
The taco de pescado was also delicious. The fish was perfectly battered. The pico de gallo, salsa, chipotle sauce, and cabbage were all perfectly fresh ingredients to pair with battered fish. If fish is too battered it is easily overcooked and dry. No amount of fresh vegetables can save that fish. However, with Kuxe Thompson’s light battering you could taste the fish and vegetables for a perfectly balanced taco. Cabbage in a taco is often overlooked, but the balance it brings to many tacos is extremely important.
P.S. I would normally be disappointed with the lack of guacamole on the nachos; however, I will not be knocking any restaurant for the price or lack of guacamole. It is very hard to find good avocados, and a bad avocado can ruin a meal. Avocados are becoming harder to get and that is not a restaurants fault.
I recommend this restaurant if you are ever in the area. If you want more information check out their website ⬇️
