My Favorite Holiday Treats Pt. 2
The Holiday season is all about sharing. I love sharing... my opinions. So, here are my opinions on classic treats.
There are so many mouthwatering treats, but the one that really sticks out as holiday-themed is peppermint bark. I love mint and chocolate combinations. I also love how the homemade peppermint bark is never symmetrical. Every piece is unique. Not to mention textures. Creamy chocolate with the crunch of a candy cane on top… delicious. To make the best peppermint bark I believe in dark chocolate. Dark chocolate tends to pair better with most things, including white chocolate. I think dark chocolate has a richer flavor that helps the white chocolate not feel too sweet. It’s a sugar bomb of a dessert, so dark chocolate helps with balance. I recommend Ghirardelli dark chocolate chips (60% Cacao). I have never tried the 72% Cacao chocolate chips, but I imagine they would help the balance, possibly more than the 60% chips.
Yesterday, I wrote about my opinion on Christmas cookies. My opinion on gingerbread houses is very similar to my opinion on Christmas cookies, except I do not think it’s appropriate to donate these and give away to homeless shelters. I’m not sure how it’s different other than Christmas cookies feel as if they are supposed to be eaten. Gingerbread houses do not. Other than edibility they are very similar. Cookies aren’t wonderful, and neither are gingerbread houses. They make up for it in regards to creativity. It is a super fun, creative activity to do with friends or family. It brings people together and it’s fun to eat the candy that goes on the Gingerbread houses. My only issue is that people don’t eat the gingerbread houses. I think it’s important not to waste food, and I know very few people who eat the entirety of their gingerbread house.
