My Favorite Restaurant
Welcome friends!
I thought the best way to introduce myself would be to share a little about my current favorite restaurant, Revel. Revel describes itself as Korean food prepared using french techniques. According to their website, Rachel Yang and Seif Chirchi are the chefs to thank for this beautiful creation. The food has been created with love and through love. Rachel and Seif have been married for over a decade. With two children, they continue to run the company responsible for both Revel and Joule in Seattle.
This restaurant holds a special place in my heart for a few reasons. In my mind, Revel has always been attributed to Seattle, one of my favorite cities. The two times I have been lucky enough to dine at this establishment I was accompanied by my aunt and uncle. I attribute Revel to my favorite city and my family. In that way, it has an advantage; however, that doesn’t take away from the pure joy you will feel while eating this food. It is hands down the best food I have ever had.
I need to start with the star of my meal, the short rib wontons. This was the dish that showed me what wontons could be. The short rib wontons are juicy, sweet, and spiced to perfection. The short rib is soft enough to melt in your mouth, while the sauce gives you a burst of flavor that pairs perfectly. It is a fantastic combination of flavor and texture.
Another notable meal was the Dungeness crab noodle dish. This dish was so influential that when dining for my second time, a year later, I knew exactly what I was going to order. The Dungeness crab noodle dish is made with thick, handmade noodles, slathered in a creamy curry sauce. I assumed the dish would be full of prominent, savory, curry flavors. That was not the case. The dish is sweet. The flavor of the sauce compliments the sweet flavor of the crab. The texture of every item in this dish is soft and easily enjoyable.
A great texture pairing to this dish is the Chinese broccoli. It has a slight crunch, but a soft enough feel that it doesn’t take away from the slurpability of the Dungeness crab noodle. This restaurant continued to amaze me by taking dishes that were seemingly simple and making them into unimaginable bombs of flavor.
The kimchi pancake was no exception to this. It was full of flavor with the texture of a crab cake. All of these dishes had a unique quality. They all pair very well with each other. If you want a spicy starter to go with your sweet wontons and Dungeness crab noodle, the kimchi pancake is the way to go.
These are the only dishes I can speak on from experience; however, I firmly believe any of Revel’s dishes would be wonderful choices. I can’t speak more highly of this restaurant. If you are ever in the Seattle area please consider dining at Revel. You won’t regret it.
