My favorite Thanksgiving dish

For those who celebrate, happy Thanksgiving! I use Thanksgiving as an excuse and reminder to be grateful for everything in my life. I am thankful for this blog. It’s an outlet to share and talk about my passions freely and consistently. I am also thankful for those of you who take the time to read my posts. Currently, I am thankful for a Thanksgiving feast. A once-a-year, American holiday that brings families together.

In my family, you can expect a few staple items at the dinner table: A turkey, cranberry sauce, gravy, green bean casserole, pumpkin pie, and my all-time favorite… chocolate bourbon pecan pie. This is my contribution to the Thanksgiving dinner.

The chocolate bourbon pecan pie is my all-time favorite. Pie’s are almost always sweet, and this is no exception except it is not ONLY sweet. It is sweet, salty and bitter. The chocolate bourbon pecan pie has a heavy molasses and bourbon taste. It offsets the chocolate and brown sugar. The pecans provide the perfect crunch in an already thick and rich pie.

This year, when the pie was finished baking it looked too jiggly like it hadn’t been cooked enough. It should have that jiggle. At least before it sets. Once you take it out of the oven let it sit for as long as you need before drizzling your chocolate on. It allows the filling to harden and will let the chocolate harden faster.

Vanilla ice cream and pie is always going to be a hit, but vanilla ice cream with chocolate bourbon pecan pie will rock your world. Sweet, paired with rich; soft, paired with thick; smooth, paired with crunchy. It’s a combination of all things opposite in food and it just works.

This is my all-time favorite Thanksgiving dish, and I hope you all get to enjoy one in your lifetime. Happy Thanksgiving!

My holiday rating:

Pie: 10/10

Thanksgiving: 0/10 (the mass genocide of Native Americans ruins it for me)
